WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?
I'm a natural light photographer and most of my clients are people who don't really love to have their photograph taken, but they know they want to create a keepsake of their family as it is now, and they value family photographs. I'm also not a fan of having my photograph taken and because of this I love to photograph people they way I would want my family to be photographed - simply, naturally and beautifully. I love sessions which are honest and about the moments rather than the portraits. Sessions can be at home or outdoors. Home sessions are wonderful because they are a place of meaning and it creates a keepsake of what your home looked like at this time in your lives - it doesn't need to be an amazing home worthy of a magazine cover - it's not about that. If you have a window in your home we can make beautiful photographs. Being at home is also great because no getting the kids out of the house! If home isn't for you then outdoors works too. I can suggest locations or sometimes you might have a special place to go - a local park, maybe where you had your wedding photos or proposed. I can create a mood board of proposed locations once we chat about what you'd love your session to look like. I also love to do urban shoots, city walks, cafe visits, and sometimes we do a mix of home and outdoors - the list is endless - let's talk about what works for you.
DO WE HAVE TO POSE? WILL YOU TELL US WHAT TO DO?
No, you don't have to pose if that's your style and if you prefer to just hang out and chat then that's great. Some others prefer a little direction and if that's you then I will guide you. I do like to arrange some portraits just so we can be sure we get some group shots with everyone in the frame, and also to keep to a time but sessions where we are running about and more fly on the wall are my favourite. I will make sure though that we get the portraits too.
WHAT TO WEAR?
Simple is best. I'll send you my mood board with guidance on closer to the time but you want to feel good. My best tip is to dress yourself first and have everyone compliment you. Dresses and skirts look wonderful because they have movement. Don't be shy of colour or texture or layers. Be yourselves and husbands look great in a simple tee - you can spot a husband who has been told what to wear for photos a mile off and they don't look happy about it! Be yourselves, most important is happy faces. Avoid logos and brand names on clothes they can distract. Avoid black, try not to wear matching outfits (unless that's your thing!) and white tees and jeans are only good for recreating family photographs from the 80s!
WHAT IF MY CHILDREN HAVE A TANTRUM OR WON'T CO-OPERATE?
I have young children myself so I know that you never can tell what will happen on the day so I really encourage people to keep it simple and fun. We'll work it out. My best advice is to let the children do what comes naturally. The moments will come. During the session you might worry we aren't getting the right photos, but we will.
TIPS FOR NEWBORN SESSIONS
If you want sleepy newborn photos then 6-12 days is an ideal time to book your session. If you want more interactive photos with baby smiles, then any time up until 12 weeks is great for a newborn session. You can also do a fresh 48 session in the hospital at home. These can be super special sessions and many families capture the moment where siblings meet for the first time. I do recommend avoiding 6 weeks it can be a super unsettled period, but this of course doesn’t ring true for everyone but is intended as a guide.
Have a few outfits handy for baby - a simple wonder suit, a beautiful print and a wrap or special blanket on hand. We can use a few different options throughout your session. I will always attempt to book your session time around the time you think baby will be most settled. To a certain extent these sessions are un-timed so we can feed and settle and break when we need to.
WHEN WILL GET OUR PHOTOS?
Within 2 weeks of the session you will receive a link to an online gallery where you can view your photos. You will be able to share these with family and friends if you wish and also download them in low and high resolution files. Prints may take longer once selected. I always share a few previews after the session.
CAN WE GET FRAMED PRODUCTS OR ALBUMS?
Once you have viewed your online gallery of images you can place further orders for printed products with your selected images. I offer large, framed prints, wall stories (a collection of various sized framed prints), custom designed boutique layflat albums, birth announcements, thank you cards and a range of other premium products depending on your individual needs.
