FAQs

Here are a few commonly asked questions and below some blogs that might help answer questions or give you more details about what a shoot with me is like. Still have questions? Drop me a line.

WHAT IS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE AND WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A SESSION WITH YOU?

I prefer relaxed and laid back session with little posing or direction, unless I can see you would like some! I don’t do a lot of look into the camera perfect posing but we do still do a few into camera shots. I really love to let the children set the pace and enjoy the laughter and fun. I have a few games to help but I will never ask your children to sit still and smile for the camera.I love to mix lifestyle and commentary style to tell your store and include little details that are meaningful to you and your family story. The best things happen when we sit back and play together, a little it of magic always happens when we given everyone the space to be themselves.

WE ARE VERY AWKWARD AND CAMERA SHY AND MY PARTNER IS SO RELUCTANT TO DO PHOTOS CAN YOU HELP?

Ah yes, a common scenario is that typically one person in the family is reluctant for photos. Trust me I work with all sort of levels of enthusiasm for photographs and I know how to get the best out of people and also know when we’re done! A lot of my clients tell me I am the only photographer their partner likes! It’s normal to feel shy or reluctant, I am like that too. All you need to do is book me and I will help you with the rest and I promise it’s more fun than you think!.

I LOVE THE IDEA OF AN IN-HOME SESSION BUT OUR HOME IS QUITE DARK AND NOT SO ATTRACTIVE. SHOULD WE DO OUTDOOR PHOTOS?

It’s my job to find the beauty in every home and trust me all homes have beautiful spaces. I have photographed in some of the darkest most cluttered homes and you would never know! Besides I am all for a little real life and these are the details our children will remember. This is why I am so passionate about in-home photography. It’s not the house it’s the home. Your children will soak up those details of the walls they lived in as children. Sure, we can do outdoors but give in-home a try. I promise you’ll be surprised.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR A NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT?

The offical answer to this is anything up until 12 weeks is considered newborn. Covid came a long and really turned that idea on it’s head and so the truth is there is no right time, it’s about when you feel ready. In saying that these are some things you might want to consider. If you love that fresh and new look, you might want to schedule the session for 5 to 14 days after your baby's due date. You’ll get those milk drunk sleepy faces and it will be very easy to capture baby who will most likely sleep for most of the session. I do recommend avoiding the first vaccination point, babies can be very unsettled after this and sessions can need lots of stop starting to feel or settle (this is normal!). The longer you wait the more eye contact you will have and their personality will start to shine through. I wrote a blog about this you can see some example photos at different ages.
